Music Prep Is Important

The most important part of your new station is the music you are going to play. My thoughts are, if you you just throw something together and stream it, nobody will want to listen. Quality is VERY important!

First off you need to figure out exactly what you want to play. You might want to group your music into several different folders on your computer by genre and then maybe “popular”, “Regular Rotation” and “new”. I will elaborate more on this when I release the article on setting up your stream and AutoDJ Playlists.

Right now we want to really concentrate on quality. If you are going to stream your music at 128 kbps, your files should be encoded at no lower than 128 kbps. NEVER save or encode your music in Variable Bitrate! My station, Acoustic Alternative, streams at 96 kbps (I stream lower because I have thousands of mobile listeners). I save and upload my MP3 files at 192 kbps or higher. This gives the station a very high quality sound at a lower bitrate. People often ask me why my station sounds so good when I’m streaming low.

Make sure all your ID Tags are complete with Artist, Song Title and Album Info. In some cases you may not have the Album Info, but that’s OK. You MUST insure the artist and song title are resident in the ID Tags.

Tags can be changed within your music player or you can use the same free program I use called Audacity.

Complete instructions for using and downloading Audacity, visit this link:

The way you prepare your music is a direct reflection on the quality of your new Internet Radio Stations! You must take the time to do it correctly.
